Maryland Liquidation Sales: What You'll Find

We’ve been busy with estate clean outs and liquidations all over Maryland and in October, you can’t ask for a better time of year to find some highly valuable items. Here's what you might find at a Maryland liquidation sale

We’ve done our share of clean outs and have come across some really cool stuff—you’ll be surprised at some of the items commonly look out for at an estate liquidation sale. When you find the right sale to check out this month, you’ll be glad you know which items have the highest value. Anything ‘vintage’ or ‘antique’ that catches a buyers’ eye has value. Even if an item isn’t vintage, and as long as they can still function and look (almost) as good as new, it’s a hot item. Here are some items that you might want to keep an eye out for at the next liquidation sale, you might find something good that you didn’t know were common post-clean out.

  • Jewelry –jewelry is a highly valuable item found at estate liquidations—whether its new, old, or custom-made, all kinds of jewelry always turn out to be some of the most valued items that come up at estate liquidations.
  • Clothing – designer brands are the hottest clothing items at estate liquidations—modern or vintage, as long as they’re designer brands. More specifically, accessories like belts, shoes, and hats are the real hot items. But if they’re clean, fitting, and presentable articles of clothing, they’ll be sold.
  • Vintage Hobby Items – ranging from electronics, to old baseball cards (pre-1970’s), hobby items are some of the most fun items we come up with during the clean out process. Vinyl records, vintage issues of old magazines/newspapers, toys, and original versions of classic board games always impress. And make sure you keep an eye out for vintage stamp or coin collections at the next liquidation sale.
For any golfers or fishermen out there, we find old sets of golf clubs and fishing rods all the time. Not necessarily vintage items every time, but hobby items that always turn out to be very hot items.
  • Miscellaneous Antique Items – We’ve seen our share of antique items and they are some of the hottest items to hit the liquidation sale. Some of the most interesting items we find are old military items and equipment from that have been used in combat. Grandfather clocks and old shelves are very popular items, but come across plenty of antique books that spark the interest of many liquidation sale-goers. Other old-timey pieces of machinery, like sewing machines and accessories are also items of great interest—as long as they still function well.
  • Tools – We find a lot of garden tools and other hand-held power tools during a routine estate clean out. The tools we find aren’t always vintage, but they are highly valuable items that people are always in the market for.
  • Furniture/Furniture Accessories – sometimes it’s surprising how much furniture accessories are hotter items than the furniture itself. Granted, much of the old furniture we find are known to be too big and bulky, and difficult to transport. A king-sized bed, desk, or long table might not be the hottest items, but the bedspread, tablecloth, rug, and other linens are things that drive people to liquidations.
  • Imperishable Food/Kitchen Supplies – canned food, spices, and other kitchen/cleaning supplies are items that don’t go bad. As common as these items are for any household, deal seekers might be surprised to go home with a surplus of paper towels and canned soup instead of more common items previously mentioned.

It’s a beautiful time of year for a liquidation sale. From our experience, we’re confident that you’ll find something good for your home, or something that would make for a nice gift. With the holidays coming up, you just might find something for someone on your list—because seriously, who wouldn’t love an antique grandfather clock, classic jewelry, or new bedroom linen set.
